Harry Bertoia’s Sculptures

15 LUGLIO 2011 PROLOCO SAN LORENZO, AMICI DI HARRY BERTOIA

From the point of view of film and sound, the film is considered to be very progressive, shot in 1965, the year after he won the Cine Golden Eagle Award (Washington). Opening with the camera moving slowly on what appears to be the surface of the moon, and then suddenly reveal the texture of a sculpture. The film is in constant motion, either through the camera that the movement of the sculpture itself.

The music, played by Bertoia, using various objects or alternatively hammering stroking his sculptures, reminiscent of the work of Xenakis. From the point of view of the career of the West, the film marked the beginning of a new approach, daring for the movement of the camera, as seen in his later films.
